Dog Food For Dogs With Pancreatitis

Pancreatitis, where your dog’s pancreas (a crucial organ for digestion and blood sugar regulation) becomes inflamed, is difficult for both our dogs and us as owners. Pancreatitis can cause a range of symptoms, from mild discomfort to severe illness.

The solution? Our very low-fat (just 6% fat), White Fish with Kale and Beetroot dry kibble. Whitefish is naturally very low in fat, suitable for dogs with pancreatitis, and kale and beetroot help to provide an immune system boost through their natural vitamin profile. Brown rice is also low in fat, and barley is beneficial for digestion, helping to keep your dog’s gastrointestinal system running smoothly.

“Excellent for dogs with pancreatitis and stomach problems

Customer service is extremely helpful. My golden retriever was diagnosed with pancreatitis and therefore requires a low fat diet. We were recommended Green Pantry which has a food specifically for pancreatic health, which is the low fat White Fish and added supplements. Our dog really enjoys her meals and we’ve not had any pancreatic flare-ups since or stomach upset which she has been prone to all her life. Really pleased. We are subscribed to a bi-monthly food delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions

It’s crucial to consult your vet before switching your dog to a new diet, especially if they have pancreatitis. A low-fat diet, however, is crucial. This is because when a dog is exposed to a high-fat meal, their pancreas is forced to work overtime to produce the necessary enzymes to break down the fat. We recommend our dry kibble and tasty treats from right here at Green Pantry

While a healthy and balanced diet is recommended for dogs with pancreatitis, vets might also suggest pain relievers and anti-inflammatory drugs. It is extremely important to consult with a veterinarian for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan that is tailored towards your dog’s specific needs.

‘’There are a number of risk factors associated with pancreatitis, and some cases may recur throughout the dog’s life. It is important that if you think your dog has pancreatitis you seek specific advice from your vet. Nutrition can play a key role in the long-term management and control of pancreatitis- it is generally recommended to feed a highly digestible food, with a moderate to low fat content- approximately 7% fat or lower. It is also important to consider all foods your pet may eat so finding a similarly low-fat treat is key, as is preventing scavenging and giving titbits.’’

Unfortunately, there is no quick fix for pancreatitis in dogs. The road to recovery can depend on the severity of the condition and how well your dog responds to the treatment, as well as underlying causes and the severity of the pancreatitis. However, a tailored and healthy diet is a great starting point and can significantly impact recovery – start with our pancreatitis dog food.
